Welcome to Saints on a Plane!
We’re two sisters from Bristol, England, who not only love to travel and explore new destinations, but also love to write and photograph the hell out of it. Together we created Saints on a Plane, because with a surname like ours, you simply can’t say no to a good pun!
From a young age, we both have been travelling across the world. Our first international trip was to Greece when we were kids, then onto Malaysia at the age of 6 (Sophie) and 10 (Alex) to visit the homeland of our mother – she appears to have safely passed on her love of travel to us genetically. Since then, we’ve run around around the world; from Europe to Australia, Indonesia to South America and New Zealand to Singapore. Our passports are full and so is our lust to travel far and wide!
The fact that we have severe wanderlust (thank god there isn’t a cure) doesn’t hinder our everyday lives living in a city with a typical 9 – 5 job. We juggle having a home life and a 9 to 5 job with travel – it can be done! You don’t have to sacrifice your travelling nature even if you’re stationary in one place with a home, partner and career. If we can do it, so can you.
We share all our tips, advice, stories and photographs of where we go and what we see, and we have been to many places… Thanks for coming along on our travels, and drop us a comment/email/tweet anytime.
I’m slightly addicted to travel, I must admit. If I’m not on a trip, I’m either daydreaming of one or trying to sedate my wanderlust by trawling blogs, instagram, pinterest…. you name it. But if I’m not doing all that, I’m usually trawling vintage markets and crocheting up a storm.
I studied Archaeology at University as the physical history of the world really captivated me. Sure, scratching around in the dirt for a month in South Dakota wasn’t particularly inspiring, but after I graduated from University, I embarked on an epic backpacking trip that led me to living in Melbourne for a while. I’ve been back in the UK for a few years now, but still been adventuring whenever I can.
I’ve been writing for Travelettes.net since it’s birth in 2009 – it’s focused on travel-loving ladies, so do check it out.
I love travel. I also love pugs, Hello Kitty and tattoos. And my sister. Most of the time.
My love story with travel began one hot, dusty, Mediterranean summer in Greece when I was small. I remember the olive trees and whitewashed houses, watching village life and the inexplicable joy of dancing around at a party where people were cheerfully smashing plates. And I realised there was a whole lot of world out there.
After I graduated, I found myself in the position of countless other soul-searching twenty-somethings the world over – career, marriage, mortgage and kids just didn’t seem like the beat I was meant to follow… at least not straight away. So, I left my job and my flat and took off to Asia.
I blogged for Travelettes from 2012-2016 and loved it so much I’ve teamed up with my equally travel-mad sister to share more of our stories, tips and travel tricks. We specialise in travelling around a full-time job and clocking up ace experiences both at home and away without spending all your hard-earned dollar.
Now happily settled in Bristol where I am a full-time content writer, I travel whenever and wherever I can as well as continuing to explore and experience this fabulous city. Follow us to see what we’re up to!
