A Festive Bristol Blogger Meet-up: #BlogClub

Saints on a Plane is predominantly about travel with the odd dash of lifestyle thrown in for good measure, but I really want to share something that I’ve been involved in all throughout 2014. I mentioned it in my ‘How I dealt with epic post travel blues’ post, but now I want to divulge a bit more info on a little thing I call #BlogClub.

I set up this lil’ monthly bloggers meet up, #BlogClub, with Hayley from Bonjour, Blogger! back in January 2014 when I worked for an online advertising company. My job had got me networking with bloggers and as a blogger myself, I really saw that there was a window of opportunity to get the local bloggers together in Bristol on a regular basis. No one was doing anything like this so I didn’t know how welcomed it would be, but it became a success with regular faces showing up throughout the year, wowing me constantly with their inspirational tips and motivations that have pushed me to try and blog as best as I can.

With Christmas rolling closer and closer every day (errr, only 9 sleeps!), we figured it was time to do a festive #BlogClub for all the local Bristol bloggers to come together and toast to a healthy year of blogging and fun!

The benefits of blogger meet-ups can really be infinite; from gaining new inspiration and tips, to making new mates with the same passions as you! These regular meet-ups allow you to actually put faces to the names that you’ve been stalking in your RSS feed for months (perhaps even years) which is beyond lovely if you’re a blog-a-holic.

My online blog world is a time-consuming project that sometimes leaves me isolated from my everyday friends who live in a world where they think the word ‘blogging’ is Dutch for forest clearance. At least in this environment, I’m able to discuss about posting at peak traffic, how sponsored posts should be labeled or how many times I should tweet about a new post, without being received with confused glazed stares.

We may be a motley crew of eclectic styles and interests, but no matter what your background is we all share this one passion for blogging! Now if that’s not a conversation starter… And what would you expect if you rounded up a bunch of talented bloggers and passionate writers? Not only do you get the chance to connect and engage in person, but they also create an instant bubbling resource of inspiration, motivation, tips, ideas and advice that streams forth from their wealth of experience.

Whenever I feel a bit uninspired and blue about blogging (hey, it happens!), meeting up with these ladies works wonder and I feel positively rejuvenated to get back on the blogging horse and think outside the box!

Events that we’ve held throughout 2014 have included discussions/debates on sponsored content (hosted by Specialist), how to make a business from blogging featuring Charlotte from Black Hearts Creative and Fritha from Tigerlily Quinn (hosted by Trunki) and overcoming writer’s block (hosted by Viral Ad Network).

So this December, we worked with Gina from Style Tribe to bring about the #BlogClub Festive Mixer at the awesome Bristol hair and nail salon, Betties and Baldwins. They stayed open late so we could fill it with mince pies and cakes, courtesy of British Corner Shop, and goodie bags from Lush for every lovely lady who showed her face.

It was a light hearted gathering this time… just an excuse to eat, drink and pull some crackers! We saw many of our beloved bloggers show up  (a few were missing due to illness – you were missed ladies!) and also some new faces which was lovely! We got straight into the mulled wine and nibbles, and the babe of Betties and Baldwins, Kadi, was at hand to do mini manicures.

We ran a quick surprise raffle* for a couple of prizes that had been contributed to us. We had a decadent and festive hamper of Christmassy treats up for grabs from British Corner Shop, ice skating tickets for the Mall Cribbs Causeway, theatre tickets for the latest festive panto at the Hippodrome and a heap of goodies from The Body Shop in Cabot Circus.

It really is impressive how keen the brands in Bristol are to work with bloggers!

So I’d like to say a massive thank you to all who have supported and attended the #BlogClub events of 2014, and lets just say, 2015 will be bigger and better! Do give me a shout if you’re a Bristol blogger or a company/brand who wants to get involved – the more the merrier, I say!

Merry Christmas, Ladies. I got a lot of love for y’all.

This sounds like such a great idea! Would love to do something like this if I lived in a city. Blogging can be so lonely sometimes, when all your interactions with followers / other bloggers are virtual. This party looks like great fun! 🙂

      Aw thanks, Katie!
You should definitely do some shout outs to your town/village – I bet you’d be surprised to find the odd blogger! If not, get involved with blogger twitter chats and Facebook groups. They’re pretty inspiring too 🙂
